 Parks & Recreation

The Parks & Recreation Department oversees the many parks and facilities operated by the City of Wetumpka.

MUNICIPAL PARK is located at 815 Kelly Fitzpatrick Drive.  Municipal Park offers six ball fields serving girls and boys ages five to fourteen.  All the fields are fully equipped with with covered dugouts, press boxes, and scoreboards.  The large concession stand provides a variety of food and drink items during ball season.

The Dixie League is scheduled to play from the first of April to mid July annually.  Fall Ball is also offered and played in September and October each year.

THE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., RECREATION CENTER is located at 202 Lancaster Street along with the Museum of Black History.  The Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center consists of two multi purpose ball fields, a concession building, two outdoor basketball courts, and a large building that may be rented for social functions. 

The Black History Museum is housed in one of the few remaining Rosenwald building.  The white framed house that is also a part of the complex served as a teacher's house.

MEMORIAL PARK is located at 120 Cotton Street.  Memorial Park offers picnic and play areas, the Scout hut, a covered Bar-B-Que area that may be rented for social events, the Driver's License Office, tennis courts, and the Fain Community Center.  The Fain Community Center is used by Community Action weekdays from 8:00am - 2:00 pm, for senior citizens meetings.  The Fain Community Center is also available to rent for social functions.

GOLD STAR PARK is located directly behind Wetumpka City Hall on the banks of the Coosa River.  There is a state operated boat ramp for launching boats into the Coosa River, picnic areas, a gazebo, the Elmore County Museum, two historical log cabins, a stage for performances, and several rustic bridges and walk ways.  Christmas on the Coosa and Riverfest are held annually at Gold Star Park. Antique Car Shows are scheduled the first Sunday in April, May, June, September and October.

HENRY CROMMELIN PARK is located at the end of Bruce Street in the Meadowbrook subdivision. Henry Crommelin Park offers tennis courts, a playground, and a softball field.
