Do you have a desire to help your fellow citizens in Wetumpka by providing them with a high level of emergency service in their time of need? Do you have the time to acquire the education needed to do this? Then you have come to the right spot.
Currently the process for becoming a Fire Fighter is as follows:
A trip to Station One located at 411 South Main, across from City Hall is required to pick up an application. There is an application process even though we are a volunteer department. This affords us the tools needed to track all applicants who have shown an interest in the fire department. Regular Business
Hours are 8-5 Monday through Friday, however from time to time the station will not be manned because of other duties.
Then simply fill the form out and return it to the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief or the Administrative AC. Once you have turned in your application, the Chief Officers along with the Administrative Committee will take a look at all applications and make the decision to place those applicants on Probationary status if there is space available.
Availability of space for membership is based on and set by needs assessed by the City of Wetumpka and its governing body. Once the level of manpower has been reached, all applications are placed on file and reviewed periodically as needs arise. Any applicant assigned to Probation Status will remain in that status until their Orientation Process and Training is completed. At that time, the full body of the membership will discuss the applicant’s value and determine on which path to proceed.
Once an applicant is moved to Member Status, that person will have one year to attend, complete and pass a Fire Fighter I course consisting of 140 hours. These are generally given locally two nights a week and some Saturdays until the class is complete.
